Sasmuan
The Polvoron Capital & Gateway to the Delta
Our Beginnings
Sasmuan is a town of ancient maritime pedigree. Formerly known as Sexmoan, it reclaimed its indigenous name Sasmuan in 1991. Historically, it was a crucial pre-colonial river port that served as a gateway between the inland Kapampangan polities and the larger trade routes of Manila Bay. Its location at the delta made it a strategic center for seafood production and maritime logistics. The town is famous for its sweet heritage, particularly as the 'Polvoron Capital', where local family-run factories have been producing this traditional powdered milk candy for nearly a century.
The town’s geography is dominated by the Bangkung Malapad mangroves, an ecological wonder that protects the coastline and provides a sanctuary for thousands of migratory birds. Historically, Sasmuan was the 'maritime exit' for the province’s sugar and rice exports, ensuring its economic importance for generations.
The Sasmuan Lifestyle
The Sasmuan lifestyle is scenic, sweet, and water-bound. It offers an 'island vibe' that is unique to the southern deltas. Life revolves around the river and the production of local delicacies, creating a lifestyle that is both industrious and celebratory. For a visitor, Sasmuan offers incredible boat tours through its vast mangrove forests and a taste of some of the best kakanin and polvoron in the country. It is an ideal community for those who seek an authentic, eco-conscious lifestyle with a deep appreciation for the sweetness of Kapampangan tradition.
