The origins of the Metropolitan Cathedral date back to the year 1754, when it was established under the patronage of San Fernando Rey de España. The initial structure served as the foundation for the community, providing a focal point for the growth of the municipality.
Throughout its existence, the Cathedral has demonstrated remarkable resilience. In 1899, during the Philippine Revolutionary War, the structure suffered significant damage due to fire. It underwent extensive restoration in the following decades, only to face another catastrophic fire in 1939. The present Neo-Classical design is a testament to the community's dedication to preserving this sacred landmark, with the most recent major reconstruction completed under the supervision of renowned architect Fernando H. Ocampo.
